Semester 1 Round Up 2024/25

It’s been a busy first semester for EUTC this year! There has been so much on and we want to thank everyone who has been a part of the club this semester, we hope you all have a lovely winter break!

Jumping back to the beginning of semester one, it was so lovely to see old and new faces after the summer break! We started off strong with the sports fair stall and the meadows social where we had a great turn out and some lovely bright weather. We also had three taster sessions where we got to meet loads of lovely new faces.

Our first social of the year was a Men in Black themed pub crawl with some fun team games and a bit of a competition. We were split into teams consisting of old and new members, which was a great way for people to get to know each other and break the ice.

We then had our SGM where we elected our New Members Representative, Máté! We had lots of people running for the role, so well done to everyone who put themselves out there! It was a fun night with lots of pink as it was a Mean Girls themed social after the voting!

The training weekend in Glasgow was a great opportunity for our new and existing members to work with some very talented coaches before League 1, with some fun sprinkled in! We also had a training session with the International Society! Thank you to those who came and we hope to see more of you next time!

In the run up to mid terms, the club hosted a couple more chill sober socials including a pot luck evening where everyone took some home made (or just bought) baking. £58 was also raised for Slurp! It was a lovely relaxing night with lots of yummy goodies!

Our next social was a bit different, Zombie Run! Zombie Run involved a lot of running, plotting and fake blood. I wonder what the bouncers thought when everyone rocked up to Frankensteins covered in red paint…

The first competition of the year, League 1, was a huge success for EUTC! We travelled to Dundee to compete and not only did we have a lovely time, but won an amazing 8 medals! The day started off strong with everyone making it to the bus (phew!) and we kickstarted the day with great intermediate women’s routines from Leah, Mia, Hannah and Rhona! We also had Gordon do a stunning routine in preadvanced men! Flight two showed Julia and Máté giving it their all in intermediate, with Máté scoring a gold medal for his routine!🥇 We had Janann and Lily in preadvanced women, with Lily winning gold as well!🥇 Next flight showed Nerea perform a lovely routine in the novice category while Niamh, Anna and Elinor performed stunningly in advanced women. For advanced women DMT, Maisie, Mathilda and Darla did incredible, coming second, third and fourth respectively!🥈🥉Chloe, Maisie and Maggie performed exceptionally in elite women while Grace and Lily showcased in intermediate women DMT. Lily won second for her DMT pass!🥈 In pro-elite women, Mathilda scored a silver for her beautiful routine!🥈In the last flight of the day, Grace and Emma blew us away with their intervanced women routines, with Grace coming first in the category!🥇Daniel performed a breathtaking routine in pro-elite men and finally, Chris excelled in elite men and won an incredible silver!🥈

Our evening was so much fun, starting with a group meal and then dancing the night away in Aura! Thank you to Dundee for having the comp and to Milly for hosting us!

We are incredibly proud of everyone who performed, judged, marshalled and recorded. You all made the day exceptional and we can’t wait for SSTO!

Following Dundee, we had our annual quiz night held at Le Monde. This was a fantastic night hosted by Hollie and Eloise with some excellent rounds of questions. My personal favourite was ‘guess the committee member’, where in order to match the committee member to their baby picture, we wandered around the tables like show ponies! It was a good laugh and we raised an amazing £369.73 for the club!

Our last social of the year was a Christmas dinner, also hosted by Le Monde. It was such a lovely evening with good food and good company. It was a much needed break from the library for many of us!

This year EUTC did a food drive for the Community One Stop Shop and collected nearly 100 tinned meals for donation! Thank you to everyone who donated and spent time helping this cause, it’s a great help to those who need it! This was organised by our lovely head coach, Elinor and president, Janann. Thank you to you both!

This is the first full semester EUTC has had with our new DMT! This has been a great addition to the club and there has been a lot of interest in it. It’s great to see people trying it out and making use of this amazing piece of equipment.

Finally, we at EUTC want to say thank you to everyone who has taken part in training and socials this year, you’ve all been so lovely and amazing! Also thank you to the committee for making sure the club can run as smoothly as possible, especially the executive committee for keeping us right! Also thank you to our sponsors this year, Frankensteins and Love Wednesdays for making our mid weeks that much more entertaining. Finally, a huge thank you goes to our coaches who have given up so much time to help others progress in their training, we all appreciate you so much!

See you all next semester!
