On Wednesday 26th January we hosted our second ever Race Night charity fundraiser. After missing it last year due to Covid we were buzzing to get back and host a fun night of betting, virtual horse races and general good vibes all for a good cause. This year we decided to fundraise for Conscious Edinburgh, a student-led mental health charity working to provide support and mental health first aid training to Edinburgh University students. The night was a resounding success, and we hope everyone who came along had a great time!
We had an absolutely amazing turnout so thank you to everyone who came, bet, sponsored a horse, or sponsored a race. We had eight races in total, with eight horses per race, and some very lucky betters who got a few nice pay-outs. Our hosts Alison and Sean were (mostly) successful in their duties but should probably not be allowed microphone privileges in the future. We’d like to thank all our sponsors – On The Roll, Filmhouse Cinema, The Pear Tree, Love Wednesdays, Back Off Scotland, Hula Juice Bar, and Uplands roast – for very kindly donating some amazing raffle prizes and, in some cases, even sponsoring a race. Also a very big thank you to The Counting House for providing us with a wonderful venue, and Paul from World of Parties for providing the horse races and organising the betting. Finally, thank you to Sasha Cara Photography for donating her time and taking some amazing photos on the night!
In total, we managed to raise £459.65 for Conscious Edinburgh and £196.99 for EUTC. We’re so grateful to everyone who contributed to our fundraiser, and we are proud to be supporting a charity working towards supporting and improving the mental health and well-being of students at the University of Edinburgh, something we care deeply about as a club.
Stay tuned for what we get up to in semester two! Our AGM is rapidly approaching so we’ll have a brand new committee to introduce you all to very soon!
